How Can I Become Involved With AMI?

1. Start a Study Chapter!

Call us! We will provide you with everything you need to get going. The Latham lessons are available online, but many will want to take advantage of our group discount on the "Power of Positive Parenting" book for $15. Call anyone in the contact information if you are interested. We also provide a speakers list of people who are willing to come to study chapters and share their expertise in many areas. Here is all you have to do........

a. Call a few of your friends, or post a notice in your church, school, or business letting people know you are starting a group. (We mail you the notice and you just add the date, time and place.) You can take turns hosting, or use the same home or public buildings. We are happy to send someone from the state board to do your first meeting if you would like.

b. Most groups meet just once a month. Some choose to meet after the kids are in bed. You can use the pass-around form included in your packet each meeting and soon have the whole year organized. You may customize the meeting to fit your own needs, and can include any of the following ideas:

a. Take turns presenting the "Latham Lesson" and then have a discussion and a report of the previous assignment. It can take 10 minutes or the whole time. It is all prepared for you and available online, but you can add personal touches and experiences.

b. If you want to do a simple treat, take turns.

c. Do a "family-fun" idea. (a craft project, inexpensive field trip, a cooking project, service project, etc. Kids love to have you bring something home...)

d. Invite a guest speaker. Mechanics, doctors, lawyers, social workers, artists, authors, mayors, etc. in your own area are great resources and are often happy to come to AMI chapters. Check the listing of chapters in your area that you may want to combine with to utilize the time of the speakers.

e. Plan some times during the year to include your spouses, children, grandparents, etc.

*NOTE: A person does not have to join AMI to come to meetings, conventions, or events. Our goal is the make this support and education available to everyone who is responsible for the welfare of children. There are many benefits to joining, however, and some chapters have a garage sale or other fund raisers to make enough money to cover the membership fee of $25. Look at the "Member Benefits" to find what the perks are for joining.

#2: Just join!

You don't have to belong to a group. The conventions, conferences, and events can give you incredible support in your parenting and grandparenting years. The people in AMI are some of the most incredible people you will ever know. Look at the "benefits" section to see all the other perks available to you for joining!

#3 Give a gift of membership to someone you love.

They will be sent a packet with all the materials and benefits that will help them in their parenting and remind them of the importance of what they are doing. What a great mothers day gift for daughters and daughters-in-law no matter where they live!

#4: Give a tax-deductible donation.

Your gift will allow us to buy parenting materials for those who cannot afford them. Lives will be changed, and in some cases, chains of abuse that may have plagued families for generations can be broken. There is no contribution you could make that could have more far-reaching effects on changing society than to invest in teaching a mother how to parent with love.

We invite you to join us. Together, we can work miracles!
